Space Ships and Buildings

WHAT YOU NEED

  • playdough
  • playdough tools
  • lots of toothpicks

WHAT YOU DO

  1. Make balls of playdough (any sizes are fine).
  2. Hook them together with toothpicks (any way is fine).
  3. Make pyramids or cubes or boxes or any other building or vehicle that you like.
  4. Use the boxes as space ships or cars or houses or anything else you need.

HANDY TIPS

These projects provide great practice in learning to do a project step by step, follow directions, and work carefully to achieve a certain goal. Let them try and show them the steps, but if their space ship (or whatever they decide to call it) turns out differently, that is very normal, so don't be alarmed, because learning to make spaceships or vehicles or buildings as shown here is a great challenge for young children. Give them some examples, show them the steps for a pyramid or cube, and then see what they do on their own. They can have a lot of fun no matter how their project looks when it is finished.
